WILLIAM BANCROFT WELLER was born about 1870 in Parish of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. He married MARTHA MARY RANCE. She was born about 1873 in Jamaica. She died on 1959/1960 in Jamaica.
Notes for William Bancroft Weller: I have not been able to establish a definite year of birth for William, but think it would have been circa 1870 - 1880. Neither can I confirm for sure that his father was William Weller b. 1833. I do, however, think it highly probable, and this relationship is definately 'best fit' in the jigsaw puzzle.
The Jamaican Commercial Directory for 1910 shows William living at a place called Sandy Ground, in Black River, St. Elizabeth. The record also shows a James Weller living nearby. I think (although it is not certain) that James Weller was James William Weller bc.1880, and very probably William bc.1870's brother. I have shown them as brothers on your family tree.
I have not been able to find any other records for William....... only that he married Martha Mary Rance, and that they had just the two children.
Notes for Martha Mary Rance: Martha's two children, William, and Lurline, went to the United States of America, together, to find work in 1923. Her daughter in law, William's wife Ethylin (Hyacinth) followed in 1924. On 10th May 1927 Martha sailed out to see them aboard a ship called Granada. The record states that she was on a Temporary 6 month visit, using a 're-entry permit'.
In Jamaica, current day family believe that Martha worked in a Post Office. It is also thought that Martha may have had a sister which the children called Ma Neenie, and that Ma Neenie helped raise Clavell after his parents sailed for America in 1923, and 1924. I have been unable to locate any records for Ma Neenie.
William Bancroft Weller and Martha Mary Rance had the following children:
