Biography

In 1871 Census George WHITE, wine merchant and wife Kate were living at 32 Buckingham Street, Brighton, Sussex with children Kate 7, Marian 5, Howard 3, Herbert 2 and John 1 plus nursemaid and an under-nursemaid Louisa WELLER, unmarried aged 17, born Brighton.

In 1881 Census George WHITE, Retired Farmer [crossed out] was living at 98 Runn Street, Ladywood, Birmingham with wife Louisa WHITE aged 27 born Nottingham and his children Kate 17, Marion 15, Isabel 7 and George 3.  Unfortunately it does not indicate whether the two youngest children were from his second wife.  It is interesting that she has the same name as the under-nursemaid ten years earlier and is ten years older.  Coincidence or ....?  I would need to find details of their marriage to see if it answers that, but of course the stated place of birth is different for the two Louisas.

A check in the 1861 census shows Louisa WELLER aged 7, scholar, born Beddingham, Brighton living with her widowed mother Susanna in Brighton.

In 1891 Census Louisa WHITE is a widow aged 36 at 5 Lynchford Terrace, Waverley Road, Portsea, Hants, 'living on own means,' born Nottingham, with stepchildren Marion 25, Mabel 17(presumably the Isabel in 1881, and one or other of these entries is a transcription error), George 13.  Also Louisa's cousins Charles and Thomas HEARLEY aged 14 and 12.
